The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited says the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) will shut down on Saturday for maintenance.

In a statement on Saturday by Femi Soneye, NNPC’s chief corporate communications officer, said the slated maintenance and sustainability assessment will begin on May 24.

“We are working closely with all relevant stakeholders, including the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), to ensure the maintenance and assessment activities are carried out efficiently and transparently,” NNPC said.

The national oil firm said it remains steadfast in its dedication to delivering sustainable energy security for Nigeria.

“Further updates will be provided regularly through our official channels, including our website, media platforms, and public statements,” the energy firm said.

The PHRC operates two refineries, the old plant with a capacity of 60,000 barrels per stream day (bpsd) and a new facility with 150,000 bpsd, bringing the refinery’s combined crude processing capacity to 210,000 bpsd.

On November 26, 2024, the old plant commenced crude oil processing after several years of being moribund.
